Recommended as the first step for beginning hockey players that have completed a Learn to Skate session and have a solid base of fundamental skills

Emphasis on creating a fun, challenging environment for players to learn the basic principles of skating and stickhandling through station-based drills and skill-building games

Program serves as an Introduction to “team” play with skill-building practices on Wednesdays and cross-ice games on Saturdays

We strongly believe that keeping the players active and moving on the ice, having fun, and building confidence is essential.
-
Games will be played widthwise in the end zones of the rink, called cross-ice.
-
Two – 50-minute skates each week. Enhances the fundamental skill development of each player.

Teams will rotate ice times that are on Wednesdays at 5:30pm or 6:30pm and Saturdays at 10:30am or 11:30am. Saturday is “Game Day!”

Teams are drafted at the conclusion of training camp, by Suburban staff coaches
-
Each player will have the opportunity to play as a goaltender utilizing USA Hockey QuickChange Goalie Equipment

Suburban Ice instructional staff will run each session at the beginning of the season with the assistance of parent coaches.

Coaches’ requirements: USA Hockey Membership, Background Screen, SafeSport Certification, and 8U Age Module.

Development of team play with skill building practices along with half ice games

Volunteer coaches run practice and games (overseen by the hockey director to Macomb Hockey Club Staff)

Teams are drafted at the conclusion of training camp, by coaches with the assistance of Suburban staff coaches

​Teams will skate Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons, and every other Saturday morning.

Games will be half ice with referees, score clocks, 4 on 4 gameplay, and two 22-minute periods

Players will rotate as goaltender and will use the quick-change goalie equipment provided

Teams will have the opportunity to play in local jamborees and the Mite State Championship
-
Jersey and pair of hockey socks provided.
