MACOMB, MI – May 5, 2025 – Suburban Ice Macomb is proud to celebrate a major milestone—20 Years of Excellence on Ice. Since opening its doors in August 2005, the rink has become a vital part of the Macomb County community, fostering growth, connection, and confidence for thousands of skaters and hockey players of all ages and skill levels.

To mark its 20th anniversary, Suburban Ice Macomb is rolling out a refreshed look, including a commemorative logo and special promotional materials, alongside a lineup of celebratory events designed to give back to the community and promote youth access to ice sports.

Free "Try Hockey" and "Try Skating" Event - June 5

On Thursday, June 5 from 7:05 to 7:55 p.m., Suburban Ice Macomb will host a Try Hockey for Free and Try Skating for Free event at the rink. Open to boys and girls ages 4–12 with no prior experience, the event includes expert instruction and all necessary equipment at no cost. Participants will enjoy a safe and encouraging environment to explore the excitement of ice sports for the first time. Pre-registration is required at suburbanicemacomb.com.

“Introducing kids to ice sports is about more than just skating or scoring goals—it’s about building confidence, teaching teamwork, and creating joyful memories that last a lifetime,” said Tom Anastos, CEO of Suburban Sports Group. “We’re honored to have spent the past 20 years helping young athletes in Macomb discover those moments that will stick with them for life.”

Macomb Hockey Night at Jimmy John's Field - June 12

The anniversary celebration continues at Jimmy John’s Field on Thursday, June 12, with Macomb Hockey Night—a special evening where hockey meets baseball. Friends, families, and fans are invited to show their hockey spirit while enjoying a night at the ballpark.

For every ticket purchased, $10 will be donated to the Suburban Hockey Foundation, supporting efforts to expand youth access to ice sports.

A Legacy of Community Impact

Over the past two decades, Suburban Ice Macomb has become a premier destination for ice sports in Southeast Michigan. Home to Romeo, Eisenhower, and Anchor Bay High School hockey programs, as well as the state’s largest Learn to Skate program and skating club ONYX Suburban Skating Academy, the rink serves a wide range of athletes—from first timers to elite competitors—through the Macomb Hockey Club and Suburban Adult Hockey Program.

Since 2005, more than 30,000 skaters and hockey players have laced up their skates at Suburban Ice Macomb. The facility also proudly hosted the USA Hockey National Championships in 2017 and 2022, highlighting its role in supporting competitive excellence as well as community development.

From birthday parties and public skates to club teams and championships, Suburban Ice Macomb continues to be a place where memories are made.
